National Reconciliation Week has started early in Mildura, with locally-designed flags now flying in the Langtree Mall and on Deakin Avenue.

School students have designed the flags, with SuniTAFE art and design students developing the successful submissions into seven unique designs.

Mildura Rural City Council says the week is an important event for the entire community, promoting and generating greater understanding of shared histories.

The week starts on Saturday and runs until June 3rd.

Several events will be held in the city to mark the week including two workshops at the Mildura Library in coming weeks.

The workshops will be held on Thursday 25 May and Thursday 1 June, running from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Residents can register by emailing claire.galvin@mildura.vic.gov.au or calling 03 5018 8100.

The resulting stories will be launched publicly at an event on Indigenous Literacy Day on 6 September.
