Appeal for witnesses after robbery attempt

A man is believed to have used an electroshock weapon on a woman when he attempted to rob her as she walked in south-west Sydney.

Police have been told the woman was walking on McBurney Road in Cabramatta when the man ran up behind her, pushed her to the ground and tried to snatch her handbag.

He used the weapon on the 50-year-old woman, who suffered injuries to her hand, but fled the scene empty-handed, police say.

Police now want to speak with a man aged in his 20s of Caucasian appearance with a muscular build, who they're told was wearing a black hooded shirt and red shorts.

They're also hoping to hear from a male witness who came to the woman's aid.
