GEELONG great and former Geelong Falconscoach Garry Hocking is returning to Victoria in 2018 to join Collingwood.

Hocking, who played 274 games with the Cats over a decorated career, coached South Adelaide in the SANFL this season and is excited to be returning to the AFL system with the Magpies.

The four-time best and fairest and Geelong Team of the Century member will focus on stoppages on Nathan Buckley’s new-look coaching panel.

“I’m extremely excited by the opportunity to join such a proud club that is rich in history,” Hocking said.

“The club has a focus on creating sustained success.

“Hopefully I bring a skillset that complements the other quality coaches already in place and together we can achieve that.”

Hocking was an assistant coach at Port Adelaide for seven years where he was interim Power coach for four games at the end of 2012 following Matthew Primus’ dismissal.

Hocking also led the Falcons between 2006-09 and also had a stint in charge of the Western Jets in 2003.

Collingwood general manager of football Geoff Walsh said Hocking’s array of coaching experiences would be an asset for the Magpies.

“Garry comes to us having spent time coaching in the AFL system, the SANFL, VFL, WAFL and TAC Cup, all of which have shaped him into the coach he is today,” Walsh said.

“We think Garry rounds out our team of coaches really well.

“He has strong people management skills, having led his own teams, and will bring great knowledge and insights into his role as stoppages coach.”

Hocking joins Justin Longmuir as new additions to Collingwood’s coaching panel for 2018.
