Unions: new bank deal doesn’t go far enough

Unions are warning that a new deal to protect regional bank branches doesn’t go far enough.

The Federal Government has struck a deal with the sector to impose a moratorium on branch closures in regional areas, until the middle of 2027.

But the Finance Sectors Union says legislation is required to make sure institutions do the right thing.

It is good news for towns such as Robinvale, who have continued to fight to keep branches open, with the Commonwealth and Westpac staying in town.
