Residents around Sunraysia with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease can now be treated with a new medicine, following its registration by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
Kisunla targets the build-up of a specific protein in the brain that can lead to memory loss and impaired thinking.
It comes as figures suggest around 600,000 Australians are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease with around 450,000 in its early stages.
Professor Michael Woodward from Austin Health says the registration highlights the importance of early diagnosis for locals who are living with the disease.
