Leader of the Liberals and Member for Farrer Sussan Ley has weighed in on the coalition split, calling the Nationals’ decision to walk away disappointing.
Ley says the two parties couldn’t agree on key policies, and the Liberals won’t be rushed as they focus on rebuilding.
“As Liberal Party Leader, I have committed to a full assessment of why we lost the election. Properly understanding the causes of our defeat helps us determine the direction in which we must head.
I am optimistic we can rebuild and regain the trust of Australians, but as we work out why we lost the election and decide the path forward, there are things which I can make clear are not going to change.” Ley said before the split was announced.
She’s leaving the door open for a reunion.
