Locals in Wentworth and Balranald Council areas will be able to light fires in the open without a safety permit from next Tuesday.
The Fire Danger Period will end a midnight on Monday night.
However the Rural Fire Service says residents still need to ensure they’re following certain guidelines.
Those who wish to conduct burning activities must:
Provide 24 hours’ notice to the Lower Western Zone Office (during business hours), or online via the online notification portal – https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/BFDP/burn-notifications.
Provide neighbours (adjoining landowners) 24 hours’ notice of your intent to burn.
Review weather conditions and delay the burn if concerning winds are forecast.
Construct adequate firebreaks.
Have sufficient water resources and firefighting equipment on hand.
Supervise the fire at all times and never leave it unattended.
Ensure the fire is completely extinguished prior to it being unattended.
Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if fire escapes
Mildura and Swan Hill Council areas will have their fire danger period lifted on April 7.
