Energy efficiency event this weekend

Mildura Rural City Council is giving the local community a chance to hear from freelance consultant, author and presenter Richard Keech.

Boasting a particular interest in renewable energy and energy efficiency, Richard will explain best practice heating and cooling, hot water heat pumps, induction cooktops, draught-proofing, insulation, solar energy and more.

There will also be a chance to hear from Environmental Sustainability staff.

The event will be held this Saturday, May 31, 10:00am to midday at James Matthew Room, Mildura Library.

Meanwhile, a new report is highlighting some of the practical steps local households can take to improve the energy efficiency of our homes and lower our energy bills.

The report by the Energy Efficiency Council and ANZ outlines immediate and long-term actions, focusing on thermal efficiency, behavioural changes and the use of smart controls.

Among the examples is the use of effective insulation which can help reduce the cost of heating and cooling by as much as 45%.
