Psyche Bend Pumps Running Day
This coming Sunday, September the 28th, the historic Psyche Bend Pumps in Nichols Point will be having a “running day”.
The pumps, designed by George Chaffey, were installed in 1891, and were used to pump river water into Kings Billabong as part of the Mildura Irrigation system until 1959. At that time they were replaced by the electric pumps which continue the process to this day.
The pumps are a living testament to the brilliance of George Chaffey, the engineering talents of Tangye’s of Birmingham who built them, and the unshakeable resolve of the Sunraysia Steam Preservation Society who restored and maintain them.
Steam will be up by 10:30AM when the mighty steam engine will burst into life and pumping will continue until 3:30PM.
Admittance is $5.00 per Adult, $3.00 per Child, and a Family (2 Adults and unlimited Children) just $15.00. EFTPOS facilities are available.
