Changes to aged care next month

Ahead of changes to aged care next month, there are calls to provide local women with tailored support, especially for those living alone at home, or with chronic health conditions.

Almost 1 in 3 Australian women (29%) over the age of 85 rely on home support.

They also account for nearly two-thirds (65%) of all federally-funded home care packages, but despite having a longer life expectancy than men, older women often experience much poorer health outcomes.

The Australian Government is replacing existing in-home aged care services with a new Support at Home program.

Support at Home is aimed to improve access to services, equipment and home modifications to help older Australians remain healthy, active and socially connected to their community.

The Support at Home program rolls out from November 1st.
